There were tomes upon tomes in the Grand Library. They were as old as the Lords of the Dark Crystal themselves. Their musty scent filled the room, almost making one suffocate in the smell. It was utterly quiet, save for the soft click clack of shoes walking between the shelves. SkekShod was looking through each row, searching not for a book but a person. The skeksis would occasionally slide up his glove on his left hand just high enough to see his palm. It was still bare. He was about to give up when he heard a soft snoring.

He walked toward the sound, robes almost flying behind him. As the Treasurer found the source of the noise, he cocked his head in mild confusion. The Historian was slumped over a desk, head bobbing slightly as he fought to keep it up. SkekShod came to the other skeksis' side, gently tapping his shoulder. SkekOk jumped awake, squawking, “I didn’t eat the last slice!” The Treasurer took a step back with a perplexed expression. SkekOk turned to him, letting out a sigh of relief. “O-Oh it’s just you SkekShod. You nearly gave me a heart attack!” He began to fix his three glasses sitting on his long and thin beak.

The taller skeksis gave his fellow lord a concerned look as he motioned toward him. “…Oh! W-Well I was writing on a scroll and I uh…accidently fell asleep,” SkekOk answered in slight embarrassment. The Treasurer raised an eye brow, eyes full of question. The shorter skeksis tried to explain himself in a nonchalant manner, but soon sighed in defeat. “The Ritual Master wanted a record of one of the Emperor’s triumphs so he could retell it in SkekSo’s honor for the feast tonight. I spent ALL night trying to find the blasted thing because that pompous slim face demanded to have it before then and I knew I wouldn’t have enough time to find it during the day and the only reason why SkekZok wanted the record is so he could worm his way to the Emperor’s favor and-and!” The Historian threw his arms in anger as he ranted more.

SkekShod just stood there, letting the other skeksis say his piece. Once he was done, SkekOk huffed and crossed his arms with a sour expression. The Treasurer simply rubbed his cheek against his, wrapping his arms around the smaller skeksis. SkekOk blushed and squeaked in alarm. “W-Wait! What i-if someone is w-watching?!” SkekShod looked at him, eyes brimming in a soft pink glow. Even though the Historian couldn’t see it, he knew his eyes were glowing the same color.

The taller skeksis let go of him and walked toward the back of the Library. He turned his still pink eyes to the Historian, not uttering a word. His eyes were all SkekOk needed to read in order to understand what he was suggesting. ‘…That is the nice thing about SkekShod,' SkekOk thought to himself. ‘He doesn’t have to use words to speak. His eyes are just enough.’ With a warm smile, the skeksis got off his stool and went to SkekShod. The Treasurer took SkekOk’s arm in his and led him out of the room, grinning softly at his Soul Mate.

SkekOk opened one lazy eye, feeling cozy and warm all over. He rubbed both of them and slowly regained his vision. He was greeted by a puffy torso. It took the Historian a moment to realize where he was. He was in SkekShod’s room, out of the prying eyes of the Court. The skeksis sighed in bliss, burying his face in SkekShod’s clothed chest. His rage from before was completely gone. Instead it was replaced with peace. SkekOk let out one more sigh of content before drifting off to sleep again in his lover’s arms.
